|SCO Council of Heads of Government Meeting in Dushanbe gives a new impetus for the further development of the organization|
Such an opinion was expressed by the SCO Secretary General Rashid Alimov at a press conference following the meeting, which was held from 11 to 12 of October in Dushanbe.
The meeting was attended by 19 delegations of the SCO member states, observers and partners in the dialogue, as well as representatives of international organizations. The meeting was covered by more than 500 media representatives.
An exchange of views took place on a wide range of issues of international and regional economic development. The heads of government discussed enhancing the role of the SCO in promoting integration processes in the region, connecting national and multilateral development strategies, developing SCO’s coordinated approaches to building a fair and equitable architecture of reliable security and sustainable development. Another important issue was the development of a new version of the trade and economic cooperation program, in which the main emphasis was placed on the development of innovation, high technology and the digital economy as a whole.
The Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kohir Rasulzoda stressed that the meeting “is of great importance for the implementation of the SCO documents, as well as the tasks set by the heads of state to optimize economic and humanitarian cooperation, including the development of the SCO potential in all areas of activity.”
At the end of the session of the Council of Heads of Government, a meeting took place between the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, and the heads of the delegations of the countries and the heads of the permanently operating SCO bodies. The President stressed that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization “acts as one of the most influential participants in the modern system of international relations.” The head of Tajikistan noted the important role of economic cooperation in the functioning of the SCO, pointing out the special value of developing joint projects of member states in the field of transport, energy, environment and innovative technologies. During the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the SCO States, ten policy documents and several interagency cooperation agreements were signed. The heads of government reviewed and approved the current reporting documents on the work of the SCO, including those related to the execution and planning of the organization’s budget, and also adopted a joint statement on the need for trade facilitation. Representatives of the relevant ministries of the SCO member-states signed the Program of Cooperation on Food Security and the Memorandum on Technical Cooperation in the Field of Joint Prevention and Control of Transboundary Epizootic Diseases.
“In general, it can be stated that in the short period between the meetings of the Heads of Government of the SCO member-states in Sochi and Dushanbe, a lot of joint work was carried out aimed at developing and strengthening multilateral confidential dialogue, at expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in trade and economic, scientific and technical, humanitarian and other areas, as well as coordinating efforts to address pressing regional and global financial and economic issues. Figuratively speaking, the “SCO locomotive”, having received additional energy, confidently follows the path defined by the organization’s development strategy”, as the SCO Secretary General Rashid Alimov summed up the summit.
