MFA of Russia Told the Date of the Conference on Afghanistan

A special conference on Afghanistan will be held on March 27, 2009 in Moscow, in accordance with the decision of the Council of the heads of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

At this meeting called under the auspices of SCO, it is planned to consider questions of the situation development in Afghanistan and its impact on adjoining states, building international communitys joint counter-terrorism efforts, opposition to illegal drug dispensing and transboundary organized crime coming from Afghan territory.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, currently chairing the SCO, sent an invitation to the heads of the Organization member and observer states foreign policy departments, as well as of Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, G8 countries, Turkey, to the heads of internationals organizations and associations such as SCO, UN and its core structures, CSTO, EU, NATO, CIS, OSCE, OIC, and CICA.

On February 17-18 in MFA of Russia the SCO member states expert working group meeting took place where issues on the conference preparation were discussed.
