The 14th meeting of SCO Culture Ministers was held in Astana on 2 June 2017, with cooperation plans and opportunities in culture and the arts over the upcoming period the main items on the agenda.
SCO Deputy Secretary-General Aziz Nosirov read out greetings from SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov to the meeting's participants.
"Building greater understanding between nations, interaction, enrichment and rapprochement of cultures and civilisations and helping to spread knowledge of different traditions and customs is one of the SCO's primary missions," the message said.
Mr Alimov went on to say in his message that he was sure "the ministers' meeting will produce important agreements that will strengthen our countries' interaction in the culture field and give new impetus to our cooperation."
The ministers noted that organising joint culture and arts events strengthens understanding between nations, helps to preserve cultural diversity and spreads knowledge about different cultures.
The participants advocated continued efforts to enhance cooperation with the SCO observer states and dialogue partners in culture and the arts on both a bilateral and multilateral basis.
The meeting concluded with the ministers adopting a joint press release and signing the protocol.
