"Caspian Sea Five" Headquarters Can Be Astrakhan
04.02.2009 16:01
At the meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov and Governor of Astrakhanskaya oblast Aleksander Zhilkin was discussed a question of relationship development with Caspian Sea region states, among which besides Russia are Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Iran. It was also told of necessity to enhance the role of Astrakhanskaya oblast in this process.

“The Caspian Sea Five’s regular economic conference is expected to be held this year in Astrakhan, and now there is a question to solve, whether Astrakhan should be headquarters of the economic organization, created by the Caspian Sea states,” Aleksander Zhilkin said.

Sergey Lavrov and Aleksander Zhilkin have also discussed the issue of tourism development in the Russian Caspian Sea taking into account the interest shown in it by foreign investors. “The subject was connected with statutory recognition of the Astrakhanskaya oblast land with the view of creating a tourist-recreational complex, and the region support in this project implementation, because it is financially rather significant and challenging in terms of territory development.”
